WEST POINT, N.Y. – After helping the Black Knights snap a four-match lose streak and secure Army’s third seed rank in its 15th Patriot League Tournament appearance, freshman middle blocker Olivia Fairfield picked up her sixth Molten Patriot League Rookie of the Week laurels on Monday afternoon.
Fairfield struck seven kills and tallied an average hitting percentage of .462 in the 3-0 sweep versus academy rival Navy on Friday, Nov. 15, in Annapolis, Md. The Black Knights then went on to finish out their regular season competition with a 3-1 decision versus Lafayette on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Easton, Pa. Fairfield joined Army teammate senior blocker Megan Wilton as the pair each led all players with 13 kills apiece in Saturday night’s victory. For the weekend, Fairfield hit .421 and averaged 2.86 kills and 1.43 digs per frame.
Fairfield grabs the number four spot with an average hitting percentage of .340 in the Patriot League weekly polls heading into the conference tournament. The plebe middle blocker also ranks eighth in kills for the league with 289 total kills and an average of 2.86 kills per set. This week's certificate marks the sixth week of Rookie of the Week honors for Fairfield including four-straight weeks of recognition this season.
Army is set to compete as the third seed against second seed, Colgate, in the Patriot League Tournament, which begins Saturday Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. in Bender Arena located in Washington, D.C. Teams competing in the two-day tournament include Colgate, American and Lehigh. Fans are encouraged to follow each match from the Patriot League Network as well as GameTracker.
