WEST POINT, N.Y. - In the midst of an eight-match homestand, the Army volleyball team continues Patriot League play with a pair of matches this weekend. While both matches will have plenty of conference implications, Friday night's match against Lehigh will have extra significance as the team holds its annual Dig Pink rally at Gillis Field House. Dig Pink is a national initiative to raise breast cancer awareness.
Army will join hundreds of college, high school and club teams around the country to be holding a Dig Pink rally during October, which is billed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
All fans are encouraged to wear pink head-to-toe to Friday night's match versus Lehigh, which is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Gillis Field House. Admission, as with all home matches, is free to the public.
The Black Knights close out the weekend on Saturday night against Lafayette. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday night's festivities will include the beginning of a two-day Alumni Weekend event, which will commence in an alumni match on Sunday, Oct. 14. Alumni returning for the weekend will include Jane (Perkins) McKeon '80, Cindy (Glazier) Jebb '82, Beth (Bellinger) Merrigan '02, Melissa (Barrett) Morrow '01, Katie (Konkel) Bergeron '02, Danielle (Cooper) Cork '07, Sunny (Barse) Novachek '95, Erin Kennedy '04, Fabiola Castro '12 and Rachel Willis'12.
Army enters Friday night's showdown with a 4-1 Patriot League mark, which gives the Black Knights sole possession of second place in the league standings. They are a single match behind first-place Colgate (5-0). Lehigh joins defending champion American and Navy in a three-way tie for third place with a 3-2 Patriot League mark.
