Day 3 Results
WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army women's tennis team closed out its 13th team home invitational on Sunday after three days of tough competition. Multiple Black Knights made it the final rounds of play throughout the weekend including freshman Taler Brazell, who captured the Flight D backdraw singles title.
In singles action, senior co-captain Jamila Paul advanced to the semi-final rounds of Flight A with three victories before falling to Illinois' Alexis Casati.
Sophomore Kelly Daniels joined Paul as the only other Army player who made it through the final rounds in her respective bracket. Daniels finished runner-up at Flight D after bowing to Stony Brook's Lisa Seyton on Sunday (6-1, 6-1).
Newcomer Brazell earned the Flight D singles backdraw title on Sunday, being the only Black Knight to capture the championship round. Brazell posted four wins before winning the final match by default to Briana Leonard. It is the second straight week that Brazell was crowned a single champion after winning the Flight D drawbacks at last weekend's invitational at Quinnipiac.
Elle and Della Taylor represented Army in the final round of Flight A doubles competition over the weekend. The sister duo captured three wins after a injury bye in the first round. The tandem made it to the final match before falling to Sophie Dzulynsky and Jackie Raynor of Quinnipiac, 8-4.
Including Army, the West Point Invitational featured players from thirteen different schools. Complete results are available by clicking the link above.
Next on the docket for the Black Knights will be a pair of tournaments the weekend of Oct. 4-6. Those qualifying will participate in the National Tennis Center Invitational in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. The rest of the team will travel to Newport News, Va., to take part in the Hampton Roads Invitational hosted by Old Dominion.
