CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
Three players on the Army women's tennis team were selected to the Patriot League Women's Tennis Academic Honor Roll, the conference office announced Wednesday. Junior Elle Taylor, sophomore Haley O'Connor and freshman Taler Brazell were recognized for the academic excellence, joining a group of 57 women's tennis student-athletes from across the nine-team league.
To be eligible for the Spring Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's winter or spring championship sports.
A native of Redondo Beach, Calif., Taylor earns the second academic honor roll recognition of her career after completing the spring with a 3.61 GPA. The Systems Engineering major posted a 12-6 record in the spring, joining five other teammates who achieved double-digit singles victories. Taylor also played alongside her sister, Army senior Della Taylor, to contribute to a doubles tandem that went 15-7 and finished second on the team.
O'Connor's academic honor roll mention is the second of her career, as she finished the semester with a 3.38 GPA as a Art, Philosophy and Literature major. The Park Ridge, Ill., native was 2-1 in singles matches during the spring season, while also notching a 2-0 mark in doubles competition.
Brazell earns her first Patriot League honor, qualifying for the academic honor roll with a 4.09 GPA. Brazell's 4.09 GPA is the highest among all Patriot League women's tennis players. The native of Las Vegas, Nev., finished 3-1 in singles matches during the spring, picking up wins over opponents from Holy Cross, Manhattan and Sacred Heart. Brazell also partnered with O'Connor to go 1-0 in doubles competition.
Army finished 23-4 overall and 7-1 in the Patriot League, notching at least 20 wins for the seventh consecutive season. The Black Knights started their dual match schedule with victories in 16 of their first 17 matches before bowing out to top-seeded Boston University in the Patriot League Championship on April 20.
