The Army women's tennis team finishes out its regular season with a pair of Patriot League dual matches this weekend. Winners of their last four, and 13 of their last 14 matches, the Black Knights will celebrate Senior Day against Bucknell on Saturday at 11 a.m. before traveling to Boston University on Sunday at 12 p.m. with the potential of a Patriot League regular-season title on the line.
Army 20-2, 6-0 PL) most recently defeated Loyola, 7-0, on April 6 to reach the 20-win mark for the seventh consecutive season. Senior Jamila Paul (No. 1 ) and sophomore Carolyn Pitman (No. 2) made short work of their singles opponents, winning 6-0, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively. The Black Knights also won in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles positions, with junior Elle Taylor (No. 3), freshmen Nancy Porter (No. 4) and Allyson Hayley (No. 5) and junior Maya Parker (No. 6) coming out on top.
In doubles play, Paul and Pitman teamed up for an 8-1 victory at the top flight, and Porter and Taylor partnered for an 8-2 win at No. 2. The Greyhounds earned their only win of the match in the No. 3 doubles position.
Bucknell (5-6, 2-1) enters the weekend fourth in the Patriot League behind Army (6-0), Boston University (1-0) and Navy (4-1). The Bison are coming off a 4-0 win over Colgate on April 5. Senior Elena Vidrascu and sophomores Maria Cioffi and Stephanie Pino all notched singles wins for Bucknell, while the pairings of Cioffi and Vidrascu, and juniors Alyssa McAndrew and Christie Schneider posted doubles victories. The remaining three singles matches and one doubles contest went unfinished.
Boston University (10-6, 1-0) last competed on March 26, earning a 7-0 win over Connecticut. The Terriers won all six singles matches, including straight-set victories by senior Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis, junior Sami Lieb, sophomore Johanna Hyoty and freshmen Iris Lin and Barbara Rodriguez. Boston University also swept all three doubles matches in the contest.
Army is 30-4 all-time against Bucknell, and shows an 0-8 record in matches opposite Boston University. The Black Knights defeated the Bison, 7-0, on April 13, 2013 during their only meeting last season, and fell to the Terriers, 7-0, back on Jan. 29, 2012.
Army and Boston University will meet for the first time as Patriot League foes on Sunday. An Army win over Bucknell on Saturday would set up a battle for the Patriot League regular-season crown between the Black Knights and the Terriers on Sunday.
Next up for Army is the Patriot League Tournament on the campus of Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa., on April 17-20.
