With regular season winding down, the Army women's tennis team will host Fordham in a non-conference showdown this afternoon at Malek Courts. The Black Knights are riding a five match win streak and are seeking their 19th win of the 2013 season.
Fresh off an emotional 6-1 win over rival Navy in the series' first "star" match, Army (18-4, 5-0) looks to continue its run before resuming Patriot League play this Saturday, April 13, with a trip to Bucknell.
Hopeful to play outdoors for the second time in two weeks, the Black Knights welcome Fordham for a 3 p.m. test. The Rams bring an 8-6 record into the match and trail Army in the all-time series, 17-15.The Black Knights defeated Fordham 5-2 last season.
Freshman Gabriella Spindler (23-7) and junior Jamila Paul (19-6) top the team in singles wins. Spindler is 9-1 in her last 10 matches and clinched the Navy match with a victory at No. 5. Fellow rookie Carolyn Pitman enters today's contest riding a team-best eight-match win streak.
The Black Knights swept the doubles point against Navy and look to continue that trend this afternoon. Paul and senior co-captain Erin Colton lead the team in doubles wins at 17-7, while Pitman and junior Margaret Iliev boast a 13-5 mark. Della and Elle Taylor played atop the lineup against Navy and improved to 11-9 on the year.
