WEST POINT, N.Y.  – The Army women’s tennis team gets back to work on its 10-1 record with three home matches this weekend. The Black Knights will host NJIT (4 p.m.) on Friday before welcoming Marist (10 a.m.) and Quinnipiac (3 p.m.) on Saturday to Lichtenberg Tennis Center.

Army capped off a 2-0 effort last weekend with back-to-back 4-3 wins over visiting teams, Farleigh Dickinson and Albany.

This weekend will be the final tune-up before the start of Patriot League play and also the fifth-straight weekend in a row the Black Knights will play at home.

Senior co-captain Jamila Paul and sophomore Carolyn Pitman represent the team’s top two singles players in terms of victories. Paul is 17-5 on the year and has won eight out of her last ten matches. Pitman adds 13 wins for the Black Knights, winning seven of her last ten matchups.

Paul and Pitman have joined forces in doubles play, leading the team with an untouched 12-0 record this season. Junior Elle Taylor and older sister Della are 10-7 as a pair this season, while senior co-captain Margaret Iliev and senior Carly Riney hold a 7-4 overall record.

NJIT brings a 2-3 overall record into Friday’s competition. The Highlanders opened their season in late January in which they have captured wins over Sacred Heart and Saint Peter’s. The Black Knights and NJIT have met every season since 2008 with Army holding a 4-2 lead in the series. The Highlander’s took their second win of the series last season, besting the Black Knights 5-2 at Lichtenberg.

Marist and Army have met 17 times since 1984, and the Black Knights have won every match against their Hudson Valley rival. Last season Army swept the Red Foxes at Lichtenberg Tennis Center, 7-0. Marist has only played in one dual match this season to Albany, in which the Red Foxes fell 4-3.

The Black Knights are 10-1 all-time against Quinnipiac. The Bobcats lone win came in 2004, and Army won the last meeting, 6-1. Quinnipiac is 1-3 this spring with a 4-3 victory over St. Joseph’s last weekend.
