WEST POINT, N.Y. -
The Army women's tennis team begins a stretch of 19-straight dual matches at home with a trio of contests this weekend. Facing its first dual-match action of the season, the Black Knights host Binghamton (3 p.m.) and Sacred Heart (7 p.m.) on Friday before taking on Seton Hall on Saturday at 11 a.m. All three matches will be played at Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Army is coming off a solid showing at last weekend's Cornell Winter Invitational, which marked the team's first competition in nearly three months.
Junior Jamila Paul made the biggest splash in the A singles flight, advancing to the quarterfinal round before bowing out to Seton Hall's Chloe Sher. Sophomore Elle Taylor was the story in the B doubles main draw, as she downed opponents from both Cornell and Seton Hall en route to an appearance in the final match. She fell to Cornell's Sara Perelman to come up just short.
In doubles action, the Black Knights enjoyed the majority of success in the B doubles flight as a pair of Army teams faced one another in the finals. Larraine Saavedra and Gabriella Spindler were scheduled to take on rookies Eva Sung and Haley O'Connor for the title, but they opted not to play the match.
Army, Seton Hall and Cornell made up a shrunken tournament field last weekend due to weather and illness issues facing other teams participating. The Black Knights posted an 11-7 record in singles matches against Seton Hall counterparts last weekend. Army went 5-1 against the Pirates in doubles play.
The Black Knights are coming off a 22-7 showing in dual matches last spring. One of those victories came against Binghamton, 5-2, in early February. The win pushed the Black Knights all-time series lead to 13-6. Army has hosted Seton Hall and Sacred Heart back-to-back in each of the last three years and posted a 6-0 record in those matches. The Black Knights own a 3-0 lead in the series with Sacred Heart, while Seton Hall owns a slight 9-8 edge all-time.
