WEST POINT, N.Y. – After a three-month hiatus between fall and spring, the Army women’s tennis team gets back into action this weekend as the Black Knights take part in the Cornell Winter Invitational, Friday through Sunday at Reis Tennis Center.
Coming off a strong fall season, Army will go up against stiff competition at Cornell as it joins the Big Red, Seton Hall, Binghamton and Niagra in Ithaca, N.Y. Unlike past seasons, the Black Knights will be the only Patriot League team attending.
“We are excited to get the season started after our fall competition closed in October,” said Army head Coach Paul Peck. “Our team is looking forward to getting off the rust and getting some practice matches under our belt before league competition beings. We are going up against some pretty strong competition this weekend, so this tournament will serve as a springboard for what’s ahead.”
This will mark Army’s final no-team-scoring formatted tournament of the year, as it begins dual-match play next weekend with two home matches. Competition will be set up in three singles draws and two doubles draws.
The Black Knights, recently predicted as number two in the Patriot League preseason poll, are looking to defend their 11th Patriot League Championship title this spring.
Results throughout the weekend will be available by logging on to www.goARMYsports.com as they become available. Fans are encouraged to follow @Army_WTennis for the latest women's tennis information.
