Army Women's Tennis Begins Play At Big Green Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. - Army freshmen Diana Alquero and Jennifer Segar both advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Flight B singles draw during the first day of competition at the Big Green Invitational hosted by Dartmouth College.

Alquero defeated Megan Breen of New Hampshire in the first round, 6-4, 6-1. She then dropped Christine Burek of Connecticut, 6-2, 6-1, in the second round.

Segar downed Lauren Lorenzetti of St. John's in the second round, 6-4, 6-4. She received a first round bye.

Freshman Christine Ong claimed victory over Wei-Ming Leong of Syracuse, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round. She then lost to second-seeded Alex Arlak of Brown in the second round, 2-6, 6-0, 11-9.

In doubles play, the tandem of Alquero and Ong fell to Leong and Carolina Huignard of Syracuse, 8-6, in the first round of the doubles bracket. The duo of Segar and Coast Guard Academy exchange cadet Cheryl Hickey lost to Buffalo's Kristen Ortman and Miglena Nenova, 8-4.

Play resumes at the Big Green Invitational at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
