WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army women's tennis team capped a three-match weekend with a 5-2 win over visiting Connecticut on Sunday morning at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights dropped a pair of matches to open the weekend, falling to Rutgers on Friday, 7-0, and Cornell on Saturday, 6-1.

The Black Knights remained undefeated all-time against UConn and improved to 6-3 on the season following the win.

While Army came up empty on Friday afternoon against Rutgers, four of the six singles matches went to three sets and the doubles point was decided by a combined nine points. At the top of the lineup, sisters Della and Elle Taylor hung with Vanessa Petrini and Gina Li before bowing, 8-6. Petrini ranks fourth in singles in the northeast region according to the latest ITA listings. She downed Army senior Erin Colton at the top of the singles lineup. Jamila Paul, Eva Sung, Carolyn Pitman and Gabriella Spindler all pushed their opponents to a third set.

Army's lone tally against Cornell came via the doubles point. The Black Knights swept all three doubles matches, but fell in straight sets in all six singles contests. Once again facing a regionally ranked foe, No. 15 Christine Ordway defeated Margaret Iliev at No. 2. The Taylors defeated Ordway and partner Lauren Frazier atop the doubles lineup.

The Black Knights improved to 16-0 all-time against UConn on Sunday morning. For the second match in a row, Army swept the doubles point, but this time got support in singles to secure the win. Paul played at No. 1 for the second time this season and came away with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win. Pitman, Spindler and Elle Taylor each won in straight sets to help secure the 5-2 triumph.

Army continues its rigorous homestand, hosting Quinnipiac and Marist for a doubleheader next Saturday, March 2. The Black Knights are also set to take on Siena the following afternoon. All three matches will be played at Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
