April 12

This week was a great week for Army Softball. It was also a busy week with eight games in five days. We started off on Wednesday with the second half of our series against Holy Cross. We swept that game winning 5-0 and 6-4. Everyone played well, Nikki (Posey) and Lauren (Gobar) had some key RBIs for us in that doubleheader, and Lindsey (Gerheim) hit her first college home run. We were all happy with the wins, and for the first time this year, we could say we were on a winning streak, now winning three-in-a-row.

Thursday I wasn't feeling too well and went with the coaches to a fair play and sportsmanship luncheon. I got sick right after that and wasn't able to be at the doubleheader against Manhattan that night. Our trainer didn't want me getting the rest of the girls on the team sick by being around them. From what I heard, though, we played well, winning both the games. Leigh (Harrell) did a good job pitching, getting her first collegiate shutout and picking up a save in the second game. It was Leigh's 21st Birthday that night too. Chris (Stauffer) pitched the second game and did a good job to get another win. Jamie (Gjurgevich) had RBIs for the team, Nikki (Posey) added another homer to her stats and Lauren (Gobar) continued her consistent performance at the plate in our leadoff spot.

Friday we had classes in the morning and then headed to Colgate for our weekend series with them. Saturday we were able to sleep in and then headed to Hamilton to play the Raiders. Everyone was loose and ready to play these games. In the first game we didn't start off too well, making several errors right off the bat and giving up two runs. Colgate added another run in the second inning, but we put one on the board in the third, and they responded by adding another in the third bringing the score to 4-1. In the fourth inning, Lauren (Gobar) hit a three-run homer to tie the game. Dorothy Donaldson, the Colgate centerfielder who is a great ball player and I respect a lot, hit a solo shot to give them the lead. Lindsey (Gerheim) hit a three-run homer for us in the sixth and Lindsay (March) had a two-run double to put us ahead 9-6. We were able to hold off the meat of the Colgate lineup and get the win. That was a big win for us. Colgate relies on its three big hitters (Donaldson and the Rawson twins) to hit home runs and score runs. Their lineup did score runs, but we scored more and I don't think they've ever had a team they played do that to them. The second game we had a 3-0 shutout. Ronnie (Lauzon) hit a three-run shot to give us the win. It was such a great start to the weekend. No one, except for us, expected us to sweep Colgate the first day of the series. After the games we went to Nicole Luvera's aunt's house where we had a great dinner that they had made for us.

Sunday morning some of the girls went to church for Easter Sunday, and then we got on the bus for the 30 minute drive from Norwich to Hamilton. It was warmer on Sunday, which we were all happy about, but by the time the games were over, we were ecstatic. We won the first game 5-0 and the second game 5-3 sweeping the series from the preseason favorite. It was the first time since 2001 that Colgate had been swept at home, and the first time since my yuk year that we had completed a four-game sweep of a team. The games were both great, our team is really playing well together. Everyone is contributing and it has just been a total team effort.

Very Respectfully,
