WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army softball fans will get a chance to see the Black Knights in action this weekend due to a change of venue  as  the three-game Patriot League series with Colgate was moved to West Point due to unplayable field conditions in Hamilton, N.Y.

The series begins Saturday, April 5, with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. with the game on Sunday, April 6, played at 12 p.m. The Raiders will be the home team throughout with Army listed as the visitor.

Knight Vision, Army’s subscription based multi-media platform, will offer audio and video of the series with Colgate at www.goARMYsports.com.  Live stats will be offered through the schedule page on Army’s website at (www.goArmysports.com) along with twitter updates (@Army_WSoftball) throughout the series.

The defending Patriot League Tournament champion Black Knights have had their ups and downs in their first two Patriot League series showing a 2-4 mark after going 1-2 against Bucknell on the road the opening weekend of conference action and also against Boston University last week.

Army won its inaugural conference match against the Terriers, 9-3, but suffered 6-4 and 7-4 defeats in games postponed to Monday due to the weather.

The Black Knights are young this season with freshmen holding down several of the positions. Sophomore third baseman Kasey McCravey is batting .409 with 36 hits (to include seven doubles, five home runs and one triple) and 33 runs batted in, along with a slugging percentage of .682. Senior Amanda Nguyen is tied for the lead in hits (36) batting .367 with a team-high 24 runs scored along with 16 stolen bases.

Freshmen Alee Rashenskas and Caroline Smith are next batting .364 and .345, respectively. Rashenskas has 35 hits, 19 runs scored and 17 RBI with Smith posting a 3.17 ERA in the circle and an 8-7 mark. Rashenskas batted .563 last week, drove in seven runs and scored three times earning Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors for the third time. She reached base in 12 of 19 plate appearances (.632) along with posting a .750 slugging percentage with three doubles among her nine hits.

The native of St. Anne, Ill., batted .500 (5-for-10) in the three-game series with Boston University. She keyed Army’s 9-3 win over the Terriers going 4-for-4 with five runs batted in and scored once. Nguyen, who batted safely in all five games as the Black Knights went 3-2 last week, earned honorable mention honors.

COLGATE: The Raiders, picked fourth in the Patriot League’s preseason poll, have been idle since March 23 due to weather conditions. Colgate, in the midst of a four-game losing streak, is 0-3 in the league after being swept by preseason favorite Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa., the weekend of March 22-23.

Marissa Dowling and Katie Bushee each have 22 hits and combined for 21 RBI batting .355 and .333, respectively, with Brigit Ieuter drawing  the majority of time in the circle showing a 4.23 ERA and 3-8 mark pitching 54.2 innings.

ARMY-COLGATE SERIES: The Raiders hold the all-time series advantage over the Black Knights, at 57-49, with the teams splitting the four-game series last year at West PoInt. Army swept the first day doubleheader, 4-3 (13 innings) and 5-3, with  Colgate doing the same the second day,  3-2 and 7-2.

NEXT UP: Army has a pair of non-league doubleheaders next week hosting St. Peter’s in a twinbill Tuesday (April 8)  followed by a visit to Hudson Valley rival Marist for a two-game series on Saturday, April 12.
