WEST POINT, N.Y. - Freshman RHP Morgan Lashley picked up her first Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week honors Monday afternoon following her performance at the Rebel Spring Games last week during the Black Knights' annual trip to Florida. The native of Davidson, N.C., had an outstanding effort posting a 1.70 ERA helping Army to a 5-3 mark.

Pitching in all eight games (49.1 innings), Lashley (5-2) was touched for 12 earned runs, walked 17 batters, struck out 43 and limited opponents to a .239 batting average.

She scattered seven hits and struck out six going the distance in a 5-0 blanking of Akron in the opening game in Florida for her first shutout of the season. Army closed out its weeklong stay with Lashley recording four straight wins as the Black Knights overcame a 1-3 start in posting a winning record in Florida for the third straight year under head coach Michelle DePolo.

After Youngstown State drew to 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Lashley got out of a bases-load jam on a popup and flyout in the seventh for the win as Army snapped loose from a three-game losing streak.

Lashley drew the start in the second game that day against Houston Baptist. After retiring the first six batters she faced, she turned over the circle, but was called back in the top of the seventh with two outs and the score tied 1-1. With the tying run at third and the go-ahead at the plate, Lashley nipped that rally in inducing the lone batter she faced in that inning to ground out to the shortstop. Army won the game in the home half to make a winner out of her.

Army swept St. Peter's and Wagner by 5-3 scores the final day, the former in eight innings. Lashley scattered five hits and struck out a career-high eight batters against the Peahens. Her strikeout in the bottom of the seventh denied St. Peter's from snapping a 3-3 tie with runners at first and second base.

After Army went ahead 5-3 in the top of the eighth, she preserved that lead retiring the side in the home half. Going the distance in the Wagner game where all three runs were unearned, she stranded seven runners, including four over the last three frames, in closing out the Rebel Spring Games on a winning note.

In 18 appearances this season, Lashley shows a 3.09 ERA with a 9-6 mark, along with 75 strikeouts and a .266 opponent batting average.

Army (11-8) hosts Fairleigh Dickinson in its home opener Tuesday at the Army Softball Complex before heading to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Penn Spring Invitational Tournament. The Black Knights play Villanova at 12:15 Saturday and the host Quakers at 4:45 p.m. Sunday has Army taking on Rider at 9 a.m. in closing out round robin play with the championship game at 3:45 following the consolation game at 1:30 p.m.
