LEWISBURG, Pa. - Army jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but reliever Cindy Cherness threw hitless ball over 4.1 innings and Cydnee Sanders drove in three runs as Bucknell rallied for a 7-2 decision Sunday in closing out the first weekend of Patriot League softball action.

The Black Knights (9-15, 1-2 PL) led 1-0 on Kasey McCravey's two-out double delivering Alee Rashenskas, who singled, in the first inning. Army pitcher Caroline Smith ripped a two-out RBI single to center field driving in Amanda Nguyen, who led off the top of the third with a single and stole second, to boost her lead to 2-0.

After starter Dana Nielsen loaded the bases with her second walk in that inning, Cherness (2-1) took over the circle and got out of the jam on a strikeout. She threw hitless ball the rest of the way striking out two and did not issue a walk facing 14 batters.

Bucknell tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the third on Kristen Zahn's two-run double, then broke it on Jacee Almond's RBI single in the fourth. After Cheyanna Young doubled in a run in the fifth for a 4-2 Bison lead, Sanders ripped a three-run triple in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Army collected four hit, all off Nielsen, with Smith (6-5) tagged with the loss. The Black Knights make their home debut Tuesday in a non-league doubleheader against Rider before hosting preseason league favorite Boston University.
