HOUSTON, Texas - Army third baseman Kasey McCravey denied No. 8 Nebraska's Emily Lockman a no-hitter when she ripped a one-out double off her in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Huskers denied the Black Knights a run in a 7-0 defeat Friday night at Cougar Softball Stadium.

The loss was the second straight for the Black Knights (0-2) against first-time opponents in their first day of competition at the Houston Classic.

Nebraska (5-1), who reached the Women's College World Series, took control of the game by jumping out to a 6-0 lead in its first at bat with Taylor Edward's two-run homer opening the scoring and Alicia Armstrong's three-run round tripper closing out the inning.

Army sophomore starter Braetana Roy (0-1) kept Nebraska off the scoreboard over the next three innings stranding a pair of runners after yielding just one hit and a walk. Roy (who struck out four, walked two and yielded six hits) got into a jam in the fifth inning after being touched for a single and RBI double. With a runner at first base, she gave way to freshman hurler Kristen West, who threw scoreless ball over the final 2.1 innings.

McCravey, a first-team All-Patriot League selection as a freshman last year, smacked a double (her first of the season and career 13th) in the bottom of the seventh inning for her lone hit of the game and second in the tournament. Lockman (2-1), who walked two and struck out five, retired the side on a groundout and strikeout to preserve her second shutout of the season.

Army returns to action Saturday taking on Stephen F. Austin at 9 a.m. and host Houston at 4:30 p.m. in the second of the three-day tournament.

Fans can follow the action with live stats being offered via GameTracker on Army's official athletics website with Twitter updates also provided through Army's handle (@Army_WSoftball).

NOTES: Kasey McCravey has two of Army's five hits for a .333 batting percentage along with a .500 slugging percentage ... junior Alex Gaff, along with freshman Marah House and Alee Rashenskas, each have a hit.
