WEST POINT, N.Y. -
Sprint football defensive lineman Dylan Doty and women's soccer player Joey Molacek were tabbed as the Army Athletic Association Co-Athletes of the Week for their performances in leading their respective teams to victories over the weekend. Doty sparked the Black Knights' 17-7 win over Navy in the CSFL title game, while Molacek scored three goals and an assist over a two-game span as Army clinched a berth to the Patriot League Women's Soccer Tournament.
Doty recorded six tackles, including five solo stops, as part of an Army defense that allowed just 66 yards of total offense against Navy on Saturday. Doty also picked up three sacks, helping the Black Knights claim their second consecutive Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) title in closing out the season unbeaten at 7-0.
Doty finishes the 2013 season with team highs in tackles (44), solo tackles (29), tackles for losses (18) and sacks (13).
Molacek rallied Army's come-from-behind road wins over Holy Cross (2-1, 2OT) and Lafayette (3-1) last week to earn a Patriot League Tournament berth, its first since 2011 and 18th overall.
The senior co-captain tallied twice in Army's midweek victory over Holy Cross, tallying the equalizer in the 81st minute that tied the game 1-1, and scored the game winner with just five seconds remaining in the second overtime with the tally coming off a corner kick. It is the fourth time in her career that the native of Saugus, Calif., tallied twice in a game with the last three against conference foes.
Three days later, the Black Knights found themselves in a similar situation trailing host Lafayette just 11 minutes into the game, but again Molacek led Army's comeback by tying the game in the 23rd minute on a rebound conversion. Army scored a pair of second half goals with Molacek assisting on the final goal in a 3-1 decision for the Black Knights' highest output in league play this season.
Molacek ranks second on the team with five goals and an assist for 11 points, along with a game winner. The Army midfielder boosted her career mark to 19 goals with six assists for 44 points and five game winners.
Army women's soccer (7-7-3, 3-3-2 PL) closes out regular-season play hosting conference rival and unbeaten Navy (8-0-0 PL, 15-3-0) Friday evening in the "Star" match at Clinton Field on "Senior Night" for seven Firsties.
