Army Places 10 on PL Women's Soccer Academic Honor Roll

The Army women's soccer team placed 10 student-athletes on the Patriot League's Academic Honor Roll for their performance during the fall semester. Five seniors, led by four-time selections Molly McGuigan, Jaclyn Kalik and Joey Molacek, along with a junior, three sophomores and a freshman, were among 147 players that comprised this year members.

Also tabbed for honors were seniors Ruthie Rosenberger and Katie Wacker, junior Madison Oliver, sophomores Katie Holder, Jessica McAllister and Bailey Widman, with freshman Kayla Swasey rounding out Army's largest contingent since a school-record 15 were selected in 2006.

McGuigan, Molacek and Kalik were also tabbed for academic honors in the fall as the trio was among 11 student-athletes named to the Women's Soccer Patriot League All-Academic Team. Kalik has ranked among the league's top student-athletes throughout her career, and was among an elite group of eight to achieve a 4.00 grade point average. A Dean's List every semester, Kalik headed into her senior year ranked 29th in a class of approximately 1,200 students.

The Life Science major has earned a plethora of honors to include the Superintendent's Award for Excellence (top five percent of class) and the Superintendent's Award for Achievement. In the fall, she received the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award Corporation (HENAAC) Cadet Role Model Award, and most recently was selected for first team All-America honors by the Jewish Sports Review.

One of the most decorated players in Army history, McGuigan shined on the pitch and in the classroom throughout her collegiate career. A four-time first team Patriot League selection and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, the Dean's List student with a 3.761 GPA as an Economics major was selected twice to the Capital One All-District and Mid-Atlantic All-Region Teams.

Molacek, an Engineering Management major (3.255 GPA), is a three-time All-Patriot League selection who was named to the first unit as a midfielder in 2013 after earning second team accolades in the midfield and up front. The native of Saugus, Calif., who shared the captaincy with McGuigan the past two years, finished second on the team in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 points, while leading the Black Knights in conference games with four goals and an assist for nine points.

It is the second time that Wacker, a Sociology major with a 3.447 GPA, Oliver, an Engineering Managament major (3.255) and Holder, also an Engineering Management major (3.707), were tabbed for league academic honors. Holder and Wacker were selected last year, and Oliver picked up her first citation in 2012.

Wacker and Rosenberger, an Economics major with a 3.208 GPA, rounded out Army's senior class that closed out their final year earning their third berth to the Patriot League Tournament. Rosenberger drew starts in 13 of 19 appearances as a midfielder and Wacker, a defender, saw duty in 16 games.

Oliver, a defender, saw duty as a starter in 17 of 18 games, and Holder was a forward who played in 16 of 18 games and ranked  third in goals (four) and scoring (nine points). She also led Army in game winners and ranked among the league's leader with three.

Widman authored a 3.447 GPA as a Law and Legal Studies major, while McAllister is a Systems Engineering major with a 3.261 GPA as the forward and goalkeeper, respectively, rounded out the sophomore class.

Swasey, who has not yet declared her major, was among 17 of 36 freshmen to close out their first semester with a 3.6 GPA or above. The native of York, Maine, played in 10 games drawing duty in all three sections of the field.

Lafayette claimed a league-best 22 student-athletes on the honor roll followed by American and Bucknell with 18 each.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average of the semester of their sports' competition.
