WEST POINT, N.Y. - Sophomore defender Paige Elliott tallied in the first half, and goalkeeper Ashley Blanks pulled up with two key saves late in the game as Lehigh held on to defeat Army, 1-0, in a Patriot League women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Clinton Field.

The Black Knights (5-7-3-, 1-3-2 PL) outshot the Mountain Hawks (4-8-2, 2-4-0 PL) 12-4 in the second half with four dangerous chances in the final minutes of play, but came up short.

Despite being double-teamed, senior forward Kimberly An finished with a game-high 11 shots with eight in the second half. The Oak Ridge, N.J., native took four of her shots attempting to score the equalizer in the final four minutes of action.

In the 86th minute, An ripped off back-to-back attempts with her first shot inside the box hitting the right post. The ball came right back to her, but her rebound shot was rejected by Banks. With 32 seconds left, Blanks nixed another attempt by An in pulling up with her fifth save of the game and third in the second half. An's final shot in the waning seconds just missed the left post where Anna Lail was heading as time ran out.

"I give credit to Lehigh for playing a very good game," said Army first-year head coach Marcia McDermott. "We did not come out as well as we would have liked in the first half, but in the second half we played considerably better. It was Important that we responded in the second half as it showed our character. We created some very good chances, but I think right now we have to keep our confidence up and stay focused."

Army and Lehigh both ripped off six shots in the first half with Elliott scoring in the 27th minute off an assist from Murphee Greeley on a 12-yard shot that landed in the upper left corner of the net on her lone attempt for a 1-0 lead.

Early in the second half, Lehigh was denied the insurance goal when Lara Wilson knocked the ball away following a shot during a scramble that came off a corner kick.

In the 72nd minute, An was on a breakaway, but her shot from 20 yards went over the top of the net. The Black Knights outshot Lehigh 18-10 and led 5-3 in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Cassalia made two saves in the first half and one in the second.

The Black Knights are on the road for their next two conference matches, visiting Holy Cross Wednesday and Lafayette next weekend.
