Schretzman's Historic Performance Earns Her AAA Honors

Dec. 2, 2013

WEST POINT, N.Y.  – Junior women’s basketball player Olivia Schretzman was voted the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week on Monday. Schretzman was the force behind the Black Knights’ come-from-behind win at Stony Brook on Friday, giving Army its fifth consecutive win.

Schretzman scored 19 second-half points, going 13-of-13 from the free-throw line to tie Army’s single-game record for free-throws made. As a team, the Black Knights went 35-of-49 from the charity stripe, snapping a single-game program record (34), which had been on the books since Jan. 23, 1982. The Dayton, Ohio, native scored nine of Army’s final 15 points in the last four minutes of play as the Black Knights came back from being down eight to secure a 75-67 victory.

The 19 points were a season high for Schretzman, who entered the contest averaging just 5.8 points per game. It was her highest scoring output since tallying 20 against Columbia on Nov. 28, 2012. Schretzman also corralled a team-best six rebounds.

Schretzman is the third consecutive women’s basketball player to be named the AAA Athlete of the Week, following senior Jen Hazlett last week and sophomore Kelsey Minato on Nov. 18. Schretzman’s AAA certificate is the second of her career after being honored on Nov. 26, 2012.

The 5-1 Black Knights will host Morgan State (1-3) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Army defeated the Bears in the inaugural meeting a season ago, 63-59, in Baltimore, Md.
