WEST POINT, N.Y.  – Army women’s basketball is coming off a much-deserved break after playing four games in nine days, winning all four by an average of 9.5 points per game. Playing all four contests at home in Christl Arena, the Black Knights will hit the road on Friday for the first time since the season opener on Nov. 11, when they travel to Stony Brook for a 2 p.m. tilt. Army is aiming for its first road victory of the year after falling to St. Francis (N.Y.), 56-53.

Also on the line Friday at Stony Brook is Army’s third consecutive 5-1 start - the Black Knights have won five of their first six games in each of the past two seasons, including the 8-1 streak Army put together in 2012-13. Stony Brook shows a 4-2 record after beating future Army opponent Morgan State, 79-55, on Monday night.

The Black Knights and Seawolves have played each other just three times previously, with the most recent contest coming on Nov. 29, 2000, when SBU knocked off Army, 59-53. The Black Knights won the inaugural meeting, 77-63, on Nov. 24, 1998, before the Seawolves won their first game in the series on Feb. 19, 2000. Army is 0-1 in games played at Stony Brook and 1-1 at West Point.

Army is 22-18 all-time against the current lineup of America East teams, with its most recent AEC opponent being Binghamton (2011-12). The Black Knights scrimmage conference member New Hampshire annually, as former Army associate head coach Maureen Magarity, daughter of Army head coach Dave Magarity, serves as the Wildcats’ head coach.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Jen Hazlett’s last-second tip-in off a Kelsey Minato miss gave Army its fourth win in a row, a 67-65 victory over visiting Brown on Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena. Minato was the Black Knights’ leading scorer with 17 points, while Hazlett chipped in 15, including the final four points, as Army improved to 4-1 heading into the holiday week. The Black Knights led by as many as 17, but the Bears battle back and took their first lead of the game with 1:49 to play. Hazlett sank a pair of game-tying free-throws with 52 seconds left before the go-ahead tip-in. For the full recap and box score from Saturday afternoon’s thriller, click HERE.

SECOND HALF SWINGS
Army has made second halves of games rather exciting lately. Despite holding second-half leads of 17 points over Brown (11/23) and 22 points against Weber State (11/17), the Black Knights found themselves battling in single-possession games late in both contests. Most recently against the Bears, Army used a 15-3 run to open the second stanza to lead by 17 with under 13 minutes to play before Brown responded with a 19-5 stretch of its own. The Black Knights relied on a pair of last-minute free-throws and a last-second tip-in, both by senior Jen Hazlett, to secure the Brown victory. Against the Wildcats, Army opened the second on an 18-4 run before WSU responded with a 19-2 streak, cutting Army’s one-time 22-point advantage to just three points. The Black Knights went 4-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final three minutes to escape with a win.

UP NEXT
Army will return home on Tuesday to host Morgan State at Christl Arena at 7 p.m. In the inaugural meeting between the teams last season in Baltimore, Md., the Black Knights earned a 63-59 victory in their nonconference finale. The Bears are 1-3 this season following a 79-55 setback at Stony Brook on Monday night.
