Army Stands Alone In First Place After 51-48 Win Over Colgate
In what could have been a trap game for Army women's basketball, the Black Knights held on to defeat Colgate 51-48 on Wednesday evening at Christl Arena. Army was coming off an emotional win against Navy on Sunday afternoon and was facing the last-place Raiders, but freshman Kelsey Minato once again rallied the Black Knights to power Army to victory. Minato tallied 22 points, the third consecutive contest she's recorded a game high.
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army women’s basketball will look to keep the ball rolling on its best season since 2006-07 when the Black Knights travel to last-place Colgate (7-18, 1-9 Patriot League) on Wednesday night. The first-place Black Knights (19-6, 8-2 Patriot League) have the opportunity to earn their first 20-win season since 2006-07, while making history by making seventh-year head coach Dave Magarity the first program leader in Army women’s basketball history to record multiple 20-win seasons. Army defeated Colgate 51-48 in Game 1 of the season series at West Point on Jan. 23.
Army is coming off a 48-40 win on Saturday at Navy to move into a first-place tie with the Midshipmen. The Black Knights swept Navy this season, marking the first time since 2008, and have the head-to-head tiebreaker in the conference standings. Colgate is coming off a 62-40 setback at Lehigh, three days after securing its first Patriot League win of the season against Bucknell.

The Black Knights have swept the Raiders the past two seasons, with Colgate’s last victory coming on Feb. 6, 2010 in Hamilton, N.Y. Colgate’s win in Game 2 of the 2010 series snapped Army’s eight-game winning streak against the Raiders, the longest since winning the first nine games of the series between 1983-84 and 1993-94. The Black Knights edged the Raiders in Game 1 of this season’s series, 51-48.
