WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army Athletic Association will do its part in celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day and Pink Zone on Saturday, Feb. 4, through various activities culminating in the women's basketball game against Bucknell at 1 p.m. at Christl Arena. Youth clinics with the women's basketball, women's soccer and Rabble Rouser teams are all planned for that morning, followed by a pizza party from 12-1 p.m.
Since its inception in 1987, National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) has become the premiere occasion to celebrate the participation, success and accomplishments of girls and women athletes. NGWSD is marked annually with events around the country to commemorate the achievements of girls and women in athletics. It is also an important day to promote the continued expansion of opportunities for girls and women to play sports and live physically active lives.
Four clinics will take place on Saturday morning and are open to girls in 8th grade and under. The women's basketball team's clinic will take place at Gross Gymnastics Center, while women's soccer, volleyball and the Rabble Rousers will hold their sessions in Foley Athletic Center. All clinics will run from 11 a.m.-12 p.m., with the exception of women's basketball (10:30 a.m. start). Detailed maps and directions to the respective facilities will be provided upon registration.
A pizza party with West Point cadets will take place from 12-1 p.m. on the second floor concourse of Christl Arena. The women's basketball and women's soccer clinics are restricted to girls 8th grade and under. The Rabble Rousers clinic will accept those 18 years of age and under.
To register for any of the aforementioned clinics, please contact Elle Nichols at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 845-938-2294. Registrants are asked to provide a name, age, parent's name, email and phone number. Email RSVP is preferred and registration closes on Friday, Feb. 3, at noon.
Feb. 4 also marks Army's participation in the annual Pink Zone initiative. A national effort to raise breast cancer awareness and prevention, fans are encouraged to join the Army coaches and players in wearing pink to the game.
Fans can purchase tickets for $8, which will include admission to the women's basketball game, morning clinics and the pizza party.
