Army Falls 54-48 At Regular-Season Champion American
Junior guard Anna Simmers paced Army with 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, while freshman forward Olivia Schretzman added 12 points, but Army was unable to solve undefeated regular-season champion American in a 54-48 loss in Patriot League women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Bender Arena.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Program history is on the line on Saturday afternoon as Army women’s basketball travels to American for a 2 p.m. contest at Bender Arena. The Black Knights are 4-0 in Patriot League play for just the second time since joining the conference in 1990-91, and have never earned a 5-0 start. With a 15-4 record, Army is having its most successful season since 2006-07, and will be tested against the 10-8 Eagles who suffered their first regular-season league loss since 2011 on Wednesday night.

How To Follow
The game can be heard live on the radio on 1340-AM (Middletown) or 1390-AM (Poughkeepsie), while an audio stream will also be available on Knight Vision, Army’s subscription-based service available on www.goARMYsports.com. Seth Cantor will handle the play-by-play and commentary duties.

Army-American Series
As the most-recent addition to the current Patriot League lineup, the Army-American series is the newest among the Black Knights’ seven conference opponents. Army and Eagles began squaring off twice annually in 2001-02, but played two times prior to that in non-conference play. American leads the all-time series, 16-9, and is riding a three-game winning streak against the Black Knights - the longest active winning streak any scheduled Army opponent has in 2012-13. Both games in 2011-12 were highly contested as the Eagles came out on top by one, 40-39, at West Point before earning a six-point win, 54-48, in Washington, D.C.

A win at American would...
• Be Army’s 16th win of the season for its highest total since 2008-09
    The 2008-09 team went 19-12
• Make Army 5-0 to open Patriot League play for the first time since joining the conference in 1990-91
The Black Knights started 2010-11 4-0 before falling to Navy
• Give Army a six-game winning streak for the second time this season
The Black Knights’ longest winning streak in 2012-13 is seven
• Snap American’s winning streak against the Black Knights at three games
• Be Army’s eighth road win of the season, its most since 2008-09
The Black Knights went 9-7 on the road that season
• Be Dave Magarity’s 115th win at Army and 428th career victory
    Magarity’s records: 114-84 at Army; 427-418 career
• Be Dave Magarity’s 53rd Patriot League win
    Magarity’s PL record: 52-36

Last Time Out
In what could have been a trap game for Army women’s basketball, the Black Knights held on to defeat Colgate 51-48 on Wednesday evening at Christl Arena. Army was coming off an emotional win against Navy on Sunday afternoon and was facing the last-place Raiders, but freshman Kelsey Minato once again rallied the Black Knights to power Army to victory. Minato tallied 22 points, the third consecutive contest she’s recorded a game high. With American falling at Navy 61-42 on Wednesday night, Army becomes the lone undefeated team in Patriot League play with a 4-0 record. The Black Knights improve to 15-4 overall, while the Raiders drop to 6-12, including 0-4 in conference play. For the full box score and recap, click HERE.

Up Next
Army will wrap up the month of January by hosting Holy Cross on Wednesday at 7 p.m.. The Crusaders, who play at Bucknell on Saturday, enter the weekend with a surprising 1-3 Patriot League record and are 9-10 overall. Army and Holy Cross split 2012’s regular-season meetings before the Crusaders ousted Army from the Patriot League Tournament in the quarterfinal round at West Point.
