Seventh-year head coach Dave Magarity looks to inspire young squad.
Jason Marshall returns for his fifth season with the Army women's basketball program. The longest tenured member of the assistant coaching staff, Marshall made his way to West Point, N.Y., after having spent the previous four years as a basketball player at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
"I've known Jason for a number of years, and he has a solid understanding of what it takes to be successful," head coach Dave Magarity said upon Marshall's hiring. "He has been and will continue to be a positive addition to our staff."
While earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management, Marshall enjoyed a successful four-year career on the basketball court. A two-year captain for the Roadrunners, Marshall worked his way into a starting role as a senior under head coach Chuck McBreen. He played in 71 career games and earned the team's Most Improved Player award in 2006-07.
Marshall also served as an intramural assistant at Ramapo from 2004 through his graduation in 2008. Those duties included coordinating teams for basketball, soccer, flag football and volleyball. He was also in charge of creating schedules and reserving gym and field time.
A native of Hackensack, N.J., Marshall's ties to West Point run deep, as he served as a West Point Girls' Basketball Camp counselor for the past three summers. His responsibilities ranged from managing 25 girls, ranging from 9-15 years old, running daily practice drills and coaching a camp team. Marshall had similar duties at both the Gene Marshall Summer Basketball Camp in his hometown as a counselor from 2004-07.
While at West Point, Marshall is chiefly responsible for film exchange, while also handling several other logistical and operational needs for the Army women's basketball program.
