WEST POINT, N.Y. - After topping Stevens Tech, 30-6, to improve to 2-0 on the year, the Army wrestling team will open its tournament slate when it competes in the Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational on the campus of SUNY Brockport on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Along with Army, the six-team field includes Oklahoma, which stands fifth in the Intermat national rankings, American, Bloomsburg, Buffalo and SUNY Brockport.
A free live video broadcast of the match will be available through SUNY Brockport's GameCentral, with a link available on Army's schedule page on the official website of Army Athletics (goARMYsports.com).
Eight Black Knights won versus Stevens Tech, including sophomore Bryce Barnes, who posted a 20-4 technical fall in the 197-pound match, and seniors Paul Hancock (157) and Tyler Rauenzahn (141), junior Hunter Wood (125) and freshman Logan Everett(133), who all earned major decisions.
Barnes, Everett, Hancock, Wood and senior Alex Smith (174) are all out to 2-0 starts, and have combined for seven bonus-point wins in 10 matches. Seven other Black Knights have collected a win, including Rauenzahn and junior Cole Gracey(165), who have a major decision and a pin, respectively.
Army took third at last season's event, previously named the Oklahoma-Gold Classic, as 14 Black Knights placed in the top six. Barnes earned a runner-up finish at 197 pounds, while Rauenzahn came in fourth in the 141-pound bracket.
Following Saturday, the Black Knights will continue tournament action at the New York State Championships in Ithaca, N.Y., on Sunday, Nov. 24.
