Wrestling Set To Open Home Slate Against Stevens Tech

WEST POINT, N.Y. - After grabbing a 34-4 decision in its season opener against Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) rival Franklin and Marshall on Saturday, the Army wrestling team will kick off its home schedule versus Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The non-conference match is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be held at West Point's Gillis Field House.

A live video broadcast of the match will be available via Knight Vision, Army's subscription-based multimedia platform. Twitter updates will also be offered through the Army wrestling team's official handle (@Army_Wrestling).

Nine wrestlers posted victories for Army (1-0) against Franklin and Marshall, including junior Cole Gracey (165 pounds), who pinned his opponent in 1:29. Seniors Paul Hancock (157) and Alex Smith (174) notched major decisions, winning by counts of 13-3 and 14-1, respectively, while sophomore Bryce Barnes earned a 15-0 technical fall over his counterpart at 197 pounds.

Black Knight senior Ryan Bilyeu (149) posted an 8-7 decision after missing all of last season due to injury, and junior Hunter Wood (125) and sophomore Nathan Dow (184) each triumphed in their respective bouts. Freshmen Logan Everett (133) and David Farr (285) were also victorious, each posting wins in their collegiate debuts.

Stevens Tech (1-1) fell to Northwestern before topping the University of Chicago in Evanston, Ill., on Saturday. Senior Ryan Dormann (174) and junior Conner Brass (165) are both 1-0 for the Ducks, while six others have recorded victories. Junior Mike Polizzi, who is 1-1 at 149 pounds, tallied a 15-3 major decision in the team's win over Chicago.

Army holds a 2-0-0 all-time record against Stevens Tech. Wednesday's meeting will be the first between the schools in 90 years, as the sides last competed during the 1923-24 season.

Following Wednesday's match, Army will head to Brockport, N.Y., to compete in the Oklahoma-Gold Classic on Saturday, Nov. 9. The all-day competition will be the team's first tournament of the season.
