LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Army wrestling sophomore Brian Harvey (174 pounds) finished second at the Junior International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) National Championships held from April 17-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Harvey began his run through the 31-man 174 pound weight class by getting past the Northwestern Regional Training Center's Tyler Chay on a medical forfeit. Harvey posted 10-0 technical falls in each of his next matches, against Lukas Basham of the Lemoore Farm Boyz and Stacey Davis of North Carolina State's Wolfpack Wrestling Club, respectively.
In the semifinals, Harvey posted a 6-1 victory over Purdue's Jacob Morrissey before falling to Peter Renda of the Wolfpack Wrestling Club in the championship match.
Harvey finished his sophomore campaign ranking second among Army wrestlers with 30 victories. He also finished with one of the team's top dual-match records, going 7-1. Harvey qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his career, joining teammates, senior Paul Hancock (157) and sophomore Bryce Barnes (197) at the national tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla.
