WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior Jordan Thome (133 pounds) and junior Ryan Tompkins (184) pinned their opponents, and six other Black Knights won bouts as the Army wrestling team cruised past EIWA rival American, 34-8, Sunday evening at Gillis Field House.

Freshman Bryce Barnes registered a technical fall at 197 pounds, and junior Paul Hancock (165) and sophomore Cole Gracey (174) added major decisions to help Army (6-6, 3-2 EIWA) to the victory. The Black Knights fell behind after the opening bout, but they rattled off eight straight wins to seize control of the match.

American's David Terao dominated the 125-pound matchup, scoring a 16-1 technical fall versus Army sophomore Hunter Wood. The bonus-point victory provided the Eagles (6-7, 1-4 EIWA) with an early 5-0 advantage.

The Black Knights quickly bounced back in the 133-pound bout as Thome pinned Esteban Gomez-Rivera in 4 minutes, 27 seconds. Thome's win by fall gave Army a 6-5 lead. Senior Connor Hanafee, who returned to the lineup after missing a month due to injury, took a 3-2 decision from John Boyle at 141 pounds to extend the Black Knights' advantage to 9-5.

Army increased its cushion to 12-5 as junior John Belanger slipped past Kevin Tao, 3-2, in the 149-pound matchup. Belanger opened the first tiebreaker period with a reversal, and he was able to hold off Tao to secure the victory. Following the bout, American was docked one team point when unsportsmanlike conduct was assessed against the Eagles' bench, making the score 12-4.

The Black Knights continued their streak of consecutive wins at 157 pounds as freshman Brian Harvey earned a 4-0 decision versus Mark Cirello. Harvey registered single takedowns in the first and third periods en route to the victory, which made it 15-4.

Hancock, who is in the midst of an outstanding junior campaign, delivered another signature victory in the 165-pound matchup as the third-year standout recorded a 15-5 major decision against Phillip Barriero. Hancock finished with six takedowns and accumulated nearly two minutes of riding time en route to his team-leading 13th bonus-point victory of the season.

Gracey then eased past Keithen Cast at 174 pounds, taking a 9-1 major decision and extending Army's lead to 23-4. The second-year grappler totaled two takedowns, one near fall on his way to his sixth bonus-point victory of the year.

Tompkins followed with his sixth pin of the season in the 184-pound bout to make it 29-4. He took Thomas Barreiro to the mat early in the first period and earned the win by fall in 1:14. Barnes capped Army's run of consecutive victories at 197 pounds, posting an 18-2 technical fall opposite Devon Bradley. Barnes thoroughly dominated from the outset, registering a series of takedowns and near falls en route to the win, which extended the Black Knights' advantage to 34-4.

Blake Herrin posted an 18-6 major decision against Army senior Christian Botero in the heavyweight bout to account for the final margin.

Army wraps up a busy day of competition later this evening when the Black Knights face non-conference foe Boston University at 7 p.m.
