NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Army men’s tennis will begin play at the ITA Regional Championships on Thursday at Yale’s Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. A pair of Black Knights have earned bids into the singles main draw with an additional two vying for spots via the qualifying draw. Army will also have one doubles pair fighting for a spot at the ITA Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.

Army senior captain Asika Isoh earned a first-round bye in the singles main draw and will face the winner of Greg Garcia of Brown and Robin Lesage of Binghamton in the second round. Freshman Sam Lampman also earned a main-draw invite and will face the winner of a qualifying bracket. Battling to face Lampman are Eric Rubin (Columbia), Thomas Spratt (Penn), Daniel Faierman (Yale) and Inaki Belloso (Niagara).

Isoh enters the weekend with a 1-2 mark this fall, earning a straight-set decision over William Spector of Brown at Yale in September. Lampman (1-5) also earned a straight-set win over an Ivy League opponent, knocking off Penn’s Jeremy Court.

Freshman Grant Reichmann and Caison Best earned spots in the qualifying singles draw and will need to win a pair of matches apiece to break into the main draw. Reichmann will face Patriot League foe Nick Laub of Colgate in the first round, while Best will be paired against Monmouth’s Woravin Kumthankittkul.

Riechmann boasts a 3-2 singles record during his first season in the Black & Gold, including a pair of wins at the Army-hosted West Point shootout two weeks ago. Riechmann defeated Kyle Childree of Boston College and St. Bonaventure’s Elliot Fanshel in straight sets. Best will be looking for his first singles win of the fall, showing a 0-3 record. Two of Best’s three setbacks have come in three sets after winning the first in each match.

Riechmann and Lampman will also compete in the doubles main draw and are set to face Drexel’s Skyler Davis and Dan Koehler. The Army duo is 2-2 this fall which includes an impressive 8-6 decision over Yale’s Photiades and Hagermoser at the West Point Shootout.

The individual champions from the ITA Northeast Regional Championships gain automatic entry into the USTA/ITA Indoor Intercollegiate Championships to be held from Nov. 7-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.  This prestigious tournament features players from every region and level of collegiate tennis around the country.
