SJU Invitational Draws
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men’s tennis will return to the courts this weekend when the squad splits up between the USTA Men’s Collegiate Invitational in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., and the SJU Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa. Both tournaments are set to run Friday through Sunday, as the Black Knights will compete for the second time this fall.
Headed to the USTA National Tennis Center are junior Asika Isoh, sophomores Peter Sienko and Alex Van Velzer, and freshmen Samuel Jang-Milsten, Austin McCasin, Harrison McCormick, David Proctor and Daniel Shutov. Playing at St. Joseph’s will be seniors Alex Holland and Rashad Shelton, juniors Henry Jang-Milsten and Josh Cook, sophomore Roman Cacha, and freshmen Ben Davies, Joseph Hatala, Ron Verano and Caison Best.
Brackets for the SJU tournament can be found above, while more information on the USTA event can be found by clicking here. SJU will offer Army a sneak peak at Patriot League foes Bucknell and Lafayette, while the USTA tournament typically features some of the best competition of the region.
Army last competed at the Stony Brook Invitational, Sept. 15-16. The Black Knights totaled a 9-12 singles record and 9-5 doubles mark during their first weekend of the fall tournament season. First-time pair Isoh and McCormick led the doubles charge, tallying a 4-0 record and winning their flight.
Following a weekend off next week, Army will return to the courts at a pair of tournaments Oct. 5-7. The Black Knights will split between the Yale Shootout in New Haven, Conn., and the Dartmouth Shootout in Hanover, N.H.
