CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League announced annual award winners for men’s tennis on Wednesday as the Black Knights took home a bevy of honors including Asika Isoh’s second consecutive Player of the Year nod. Isoh was one of four Black Knights to be recognized as the conference announced major awards, all-league and academic plaudits.

Isoh became the first in conference history to earn back-to-back Patriot League Player of the Year honors and just the second to earn multiple certificates. Isoh, who played exclusively at No. 1 singles and doubles, totaled a 14-5 record in solo play and 16-3 in doubles. The junior out of Cambria Heights, N.Y., went undefeated (4-0) against Patriot League foes in singles play, with all four victories coming in straight sets.

Isoh, the Patriot League Player of the Month in March, was Army’s lone representative on the All-Patriot League first team. A pair of plebes earned second-team nods as freshmen Caison Best and Harrison McCormick were both took home certificates.

Despite going just 9-11 in dual matches, Best went 4-1 against Patriot League opponents and provided the match-clinching point in dramatic fashion in Army’s 4-3 Gold Star win over Navy. Best played throughout the lineup with the majority of his matches coming at the No. 3 spot where he went 5-4.

McCormick, who was named the Patriot League Player of the Month in February, totaled team-best records in singles (15-4) and doubles (17-3) play. McCormick’s 17 doubles wins this spring rank tied for eighth on Army’s single-season list, matching Isoh’s total from 2012. McCormick went 4-0 against conference foes in singles action and won both contests against the rival Midshipmen in straight sets.

Sophomore Peter Sienko rounded out Army’s award winners as he was voted to the Academic All-Patriot League team. Sienko, who majors in Russian, carries a 3.937 cumulative grade point average and has earned Dean’s List plaudits and the Distinguished Cadet Award. On the court, Sienko went 10-5 in singles matches and 14-5 in doubles play this spring, with all doubles matches played alongside junior Henry Jang-Milsten.

The Black Knights went 16-7 in 2013, earning the Patriot League Tournament’s No. 1 seed after finishing conference play with a perfect 6-0 record. The season came to an emotional end when Army was ousted by Navy, 4-3, in the conference semifinals.

Army’s three All-League certificates match its total from 2012, while Sienko’s Academic All-Patriot League nod is the first in program history.

The Academic All-Patriot League Team was added in the 2010-11 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. The awards were voted on by the conference’s sports information directors who could not cast a ballot for their own student-athletes.
