CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Junior Asika Isoh was voted the Patriot League Men’s Tennis Player of the Month as announced by the conference office on Thursday. Isoh led Army with seven singles wins and eight doubles victories in the busy month of March to push the Black Knights to a 12-5 record overall, including 3-0 in Patriot League matches.
Isoh played exclusively at No. 1 singles (7-2) and doubles (8-1) with five of his solo victories coming in straight sets. Both of the Cambria Heights, N.Y., native’s conference singles wins came in straight sets, including a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Lafayette’s Brandon Goldstein and a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Lehigh’s Ben Gilman.
Isoh teamed with February’s Player of the Month Harrison McCormick for all eight doubles victories in March. Isoh and McCormick’s opponents won an average of just 3.4 games per match as the Black Knight duo inched closer to the Army record book. The pair is one win shy of moving into a tie for ninth on Army’s single-season doubles wins as a team list, while Isoh is four wins shy of cracking the career doubles wins list.
With Isoh and McCormick both earning monthly certificates this season, Army has collected two Patriot League honors in one season for just the second time since the conference began handing out monthly awards in 2003. The only other season the Black Knights snagged multiple recognitions was in 2008 when Army’s all-time singles wins leader Eddie Kang (USMA 2008) was recognized in February and April.
The monthly honor is the first of Isoh's career, who was named the Patriot League Player of the Year in 2012.
