WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army men's tennis team opens Patriot League competition this weekend with three matches scheduled at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The preseason favorite Black Knights take on Lafayette and Holy Cross Saturday at 9 a.m. and 12 noon, respectively, followed by Colgate at noon on Sunday.

The Black Knights, who posted a 6-0 record last year winning the league's regular-season title, were picked first among nine schools. Army garnered 121 points and nine first-place votes from the head coaches and sports information directors, who were not allowed to vote for their own teams. Colgate was picked sixth, Lafayette eighth and Holy Cross ninth.

Army has three All-Patriot League players from 2013 on its roster to include two-time Patriot League Player of the Year Asika Isoh, along with second-team honorees in sophomores Caison Best and Harrison McCormick.

The Black Knights (8-4) return home for the first time in almost a month since posting a 6-1 decision over Drexel on Feb. 23rd at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. Army went 2-3 mark on the road during that span with 7-0 wins over The Citadel and UC Riverside, while bowing to Air Force (4-2), UC Irvine (6-1) and Loyola Marymount (4-3).

In its last outing, Army won the doubles point against Loyola Marymount, but the Lions posted wins in the top four singles matches en route to the decision. Winning at the No. 2 and 3 doubles were sophomore Austin McCasin and freshman Kyle Barnes, and the duo of senior Henry Jang-Milsten and junior Peter Sienkoposting 8-7 and 8-3 decisions, respectively.

Winning in singles play were McCormick who bested Loyola Marymount Luke Bohuslav, 6-3, 6-4, at the fifth position with junior Roman Cacha winning 6-3, 6-3, over the Lions' Daniel Simko in the No. 6 singles match. Best was the only Black Knight to force a third set, as he won by a 6-3 margin in the opener at No. 3 before falling to 6-4 and 6-1 defeats in the second and third sets, respectively.
