The Army men's tennis team will venture away from the Lichtenberg Tennis Center for the first time this spring when its travels to Charleston, S.C., for dual matches against The Citadel and Air Force. The Black Knights will face the Bulldogs on Friday, Feb. 28 at 2:30 p.m. before meeting the Falcons on Sunday, March 2 for an 11 a.m. neutral-site match.
Army (6-1) went 2-1 at last weekend's Army Shootout, collecting wins over Drexel, 6-1, and St. Bonaventure, 7-0, and falling to Binghamton, 5-2.
Freshman Sam Lampman went 5-0 in all competition at the Army Shootout, posting a 3-0 mark at the top singles position, while going 2-0 in doubles action. Classmate Grant Riechmann was 2-1 in the singles ranks, with juniors Roman Cacha, Peter Sienko and Alex Van Velzer also notched a pair of singles wins.
Riechmann has posted a team-leading 12 wins while going 12-4 in singles, and Lampman (9-8) and Cacha (6-1) have also notched over five wins in singles action.
The Citadel enters the weekend 2-10, mostly recently suffering 7-0 setbacks to Charlotte and North Carolina on Feb. 22. The Bulldogs' two wins on the season came in 7-0 decisions over Benedict and Spartanburg Methodist on Feb. 9. In the matches, seniors Dillon Berkabile and Elliott Sperr, junior Peter Bleach, sophomores Oliver Dedding and Jackson Pride, and freshman Joe Bove each tallied a pair of singles victories.
Air Force comes in 7-2 and was last in action on Feb. 22 when it picked up a 7-0 win over Portland State. The Falcons are paced by seniors Alex Grubbs and Steven Young, who have each collected nine singles wins.
Army is 1-0 in its all-time series with The Citadel, and trails Air Force, 3-4.
Following Sunday, the Black Knights will take a week off before heading west for dual matches against UC Irvine (March 15) and UC Riverside (March 16).
