Men's Tennis Hosts Army Shootout This Weekend

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army men's tennis team will welcome a trio of schools to Lichtenberg Tennis Center when the Black Knights host the Army Shootout this weekend. Army will compete in dual matches against Binghamton, Drexel and St. Bonaventure. Matches will kick off on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 8 a.m. and will continue through Sunday afternoon. Army was last in action on Feb. 8 when it collected home victories over Stony Brook and Connecticut. The Black Knights topped the Seawolves, 4-3, in their opening match before bettering the Huskies, 5-2.

Senior Asika Isoh, sophomore Harrison McCormick and freshman Grant Riechmann all earned singles victories against Stony Brook, while the pairings of sophomore Austin McCasin and freshman Kyle Barnes, and senior Henry Jang-Milsten and junior Peter Sienko each posted wins in doubles action.

Against Connecticut, Barnes, Riechmann and Sienko were joined by junior Roman Cacha and freshman Sam Lampman in grabbing singles triumphs, and Isoh and junior Alex Van Velzer teamed up for Army's lone doubles win.

Riechmann (4-0) has been Army's top singles player so far in 2014, while Barnes, McCasin, Lampman and Van Velzer are tied for second among Black Knights with 2-1 singles records. In doubles competition, Jang-Milsten and Sienko have been Army's best duo at 3-1, with Barnes and McCasin close behind at 2-0.

Binghamton enters the weekend with a 4-3 record, most recently picking up a 6-1 decision at Norfolk State on Feb. 15. Sophomores Elliot Hureau (5-2) and Alexander Maisin (5-1) pace the Bearcats with five wins apiece, while Maisin has been the team's top doubles player so far with a 5-2 mark.

Drexel is 5-1 to start the season and will be action for the first time since grabbing a 4-3 win over Temple on Feb. 12. In the victory, juniors Dan Koehler and Badr Ouabdelmoumen and sophomore Xabier Saavedra each recorded singles wins, while the tandems of Koehler and senior Skyler Davis, and Ouabdelmoumen and junior Daniel Hansen took decisions to secure the doubles point for the Dragons.

St. Bonaventure sits 1-7 on the year after dropping a 6-1 decision at Navy on Feb. 15. Sophomore Eduardo Irizarry (3-3) has been the top singles player for the Bonnies, while Irizarry and senior Javier Ortiz have partnered up for a team-leading 3-2 doubles record.

Following the Army Shootout, the Black Knights will go on a five-match road swing that will take them to South Carolina and California. The trip will begin with a 2:30 p.m. match at The Citadel on Friday, Feb. 28.
