CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League released the Preseason Men’s Tennis Poll on Thursday afternoon with the Army men picked to finish second in the seven-team conference. The Black Knights garnered 63 points and four first-place votes on ballots submitted by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors who were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

Army went 16-13 a season ago, finishing the regular season in third place with a 4-2 record against Patriot League foes. The Black Knights cruised through the first two rounds of the conference tournament before getting topped by Navy, 4-1, in the title match.

Army returns a trio of All-Patriot League performers from last season’s team, including 2012 Patriot League Player of the Year Asika Isoh. The junior from Cambria Heights, N.Y., went 17-10 in dual matches last year, all played at the No. 1 spot.

Fellow first-team selection sophomore Alex Van Velzer and second-teamer Peter Sienko are also back on the courts in 2013, led by 11th-year head coach Jim Poling.

Navy was picked to win the conference for the second consecutive year after garnering 70 points and 10 first-place nods. Lehigh, who upset Army in the regular season last year, was picked third with 50 points, followed by Bucknell (41), Colgate (36), Lafayette (22) and Holy Cross (12).

The Black Knights will host the Army Challenge Jan. 25-27, featuring matches against UNC-Greensboro, Marist and Gardner Webb before the dual schedule begins on Feb. 1 at Arkansas. Army’s first Patriot League contest is slated for March 22 when Lafayette and Holy Cross travel to West Point.
