WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men’s tennis completed its second weekend of the fall tournament season on Sunday, tallying a 16-25 record in singles play and a 10-9 mark in doubles at a pair of tournaments. The Black Knights were split between the USTA Collegiate Invitational in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., and the SJU Invite in Philadelphia, Pa.

The USTA event featured some of the top teams in the region, including a number of teams on Army’s upcoming dual meet schedule. The Black Knights went 7-13 in singles matches led by sophomore Peter Sienko and freshman Harrison McCormick who each totaled a 2-1 record. Both defeated players for St. Peter’s and St. Francis (N.Y.) in the consolation rounds after being bounced by Ivy League foes in the Round of 16.

Sienko, competing in the C Flight, fell to Dartmouth’s Erik Nordhal, 6-1, 6-4, before defeating SPC’s Alex Frakes, 6-4, 6-2, and the Red Flash’s Andres Rosa, 6-2, 6-0. In the E Flight, McCormick lost to Yale’s Zachary Krumholz, 6-2, 6-2, before knocking off Marko Knezevic of St. Peter’s, 6-3, 6-4, and Juna Pardo of St. Francis, 6-0, 5-0 (inj.).

In doubles play, the Black Knights went 5-4, anchored by a 2-1 showing by freshman Austin McCasin and sophomore Alex Van Velzer. The pair advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2 Doubles flight before falling to Lampa/Mihai of St. John’s, 8-3.

In Philadelphia, Army went 5-8 in the main draw of singles and 4-4 in consolation matches. The Black Knights were led by sophomore Roman Cacha who advanced to semifinals of the Flight 2 bracket. Cacha defeated Delaware’s Jason Derene in the first round in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, before knocking off fellow Patriot League player Octavio Canibe of Bucknell, 6-1, 1-6, 10-4 in the quarterfinals. Cacha’s run came to an end in the semis with a 6-4, 6-1 setback to Penn’s Vim De Alwis.

In doubles play, the Black Knights collected a 5-4 mark in the main draws before losing their lone consolation contest. The veteran duo of senior captain Alex Holland and junior Henry Jang-Milsten advanced to the semifinals of the Flight 1 bracket to lead the Army charge.

Holland and Jang-Milsten defeated a pair from LaSalle, 9-7, to open the competition before dispatching Bucknell’s Nick Bybel and Evan Zimmer, 8-3 in the quarterfinals. The Army duo fell to Villanova’s Thomas O’Brien and Kelly Donaldson, 8-3, as their stay ended in the semifinals.
