WEST POINT, N.Y. - The defending Patriot League regular-season champion Black Knights opened conference play in a decisive manner by sweeping Lafayette and Holy Cross, 7-0, Saturday at Lichtenberg Tennis Center to improve to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Army took 17 of the 18 matches starting with a sweep of all 12 singles matches in straight sets along with all three doubles against Holy Cross after taking two of the three doubles matches in the opener against Lafayette.

The first-day sweep extends the Black Knights' conference regular-season win streak, dating back to last year, to 8-0.

Army went with different singles and doubles lineup in the matches with the teams of Harrison McCormick and Grant Riechmann at No. 1 doubles and Rommel Verano and Sam Lampman at third doubles posting 8-2 and 8-3 wins, respectively, in the win over Lafayette.

Asika Isoh, two-time Patriot Player of the Year, limited Brandon Goldstein to just two points in romping to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Caison Best defeated Brian Pinkard, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Alex Van Velzer rode to a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Brian Sefanowiz at No. 3 singles.

Peter Sienko, Roman Cacha and Ben Davies won handily at their respective matches at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively.

Against Holy Cross, Isoh and Van Velzer combined their talents for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, Sienko teamed with Henry Jang-Milsten in taking the measure of the Crusader duo at No. 2 with Best and Cacha winning 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

Army limited Holy Cross to just five points in the first three singles matches and 11 points in the six matches. Winners for the Black Knights were Lampman at No. 1, Reichmann at No. 2, McCormick at No. 3 with McCasin, Kyle Barnes and Verano ounding out the No. four through six spots, respectively, in the lineup.

Army continues Patriot League competition taking on Colgate at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
