UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Army men’s tennis dropped a 6-1 decision at Penn State on Saturday to even its season mark to 6-6. The match was the first of two contests this weekend as the Black Knights will return home to host Monmouth on Sunday. Sophomore Asika Isoh provided Army’s lone point of the morning.
The Nittany Lions (8-2) swept all three doubles contests to jump ahead 1-0 in the early goings. PSU’s Jason Lee and Russelll Bader knocked off Isoh and Henry Jang-Milsten, 8-5, at the No. 1 spot in the closest match of the day. The PSU duo improved to 7-1 on the season while the Black Knight pair fell to 4-5 in duals this season.
Bader defeated Jang-Milsten, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3, while No. 121 Tomas Hanzlik topped Army junior Alex Holland, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 to stretch the Penn State lead to 3-0.
Isoh collected Army’s lone point by defeating Jason Lee, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. The win was Isoh’s team-best 12th of the seaosn (12-9) and sixth of the spring (6-4). The six dual wins tie with Van Velzer for the team lead.
Ahead 3-1, Penn State sealed the victory when Taylor Cohen defeated freshman Peter Sienko, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4 singles.
Army will have a quick turnaround as the Black Knights return home to host regional foe Monmouth on Sunday at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The match against the 0-3 Hawks is slated to begin at noon.
