WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army men’s tennis earned its second win of the weekend with a 4-3 defeat of NJIT on Saturday afternoon at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Black Knights captured their third consecutive win by rebounding from losing the doubles point with winning four singles contests, including sophomore Peter Sienko’s match-clinching victory at No. 4.

Army (4-1) fell behind 1-0 after the Highlanders (7-2) won a pair of doubles matches. All three contests were decided by scores of 8-4, with the Black Knights’ lone win coming at No. 1 by junior Asika Isoh and freshman Harrison McCormick. The Army duo improved to 4-0 on the season.

NJIT’s lead jumped to 2-0 after freshman Caison Best fell at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2, to Markus Schultz, before Isoh got the Black Knights on the board with a straight-set win, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 opposite Holger Norregaard. Isoh enters Sunday’s match with a 3-1 singles mark this dual season.

Army leveled the score 2-2 after sophomore Roman Cacha earned a come-from-behind victory at No. 6. Cacha dropped his first set, 6-4, before edging Fraser Croad 6-3, 6-2 in the final two sets. The score was evened once again, 3-3, after Rashad Shelton dropped a three-set decision at No. 3, and McCormick captured his fourth singles win of the season at No. 5.

The match score was decided by Sienko who faced Petr Rousar at No. 4. Sienko, who lost his singles contest against Fairfield on Friday night, won the first set against Rousar 6-3, before Rousar took the second set by the same margin. Sienko battled for the win in the third set, pulling away for the 6-3 win. The sophomore carries a 3-2 record into Sunday’s showdown with Marist.

Army will wrap up its three-match weekend tomorrow at 2 p.m., against regional rival Marist. The Red Foxes’ match against the Black Knights is their first true dual match of 2013.
