WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army sprint football junior wide receiver Cody Nyp was named Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week on Monday following a breakout performance Friday night at Princeton.
Nyp led the Black Knights (2-1, 2-0 CSFL) to a 57-13 in a College Sprint Football League matchup at Princeton Stadium. The junior recorded seven catches for a career-high 207 yards and five touchdowns. The five scores, all from junior quarterback Javier Sustaita, also list as a career best.
For the season, Nyp leads the Black Knights averaging 146-receiving yards per game to go along with a team-high nine touchdowns through the first three games.
Nyp is the first sprint football player to be named AAA Athlete of the Week since Tim Meier was recognized on Nov. 8, 2010, following Army’s league championship win at rival Navy. Monday’s honor is the first AAA certificate for Nyp in his career.
The Black Knights return to action on Friday at Cornell. Army will be looking to avenge its only loss from the 2010 title season. Kickoff at Schoellkopf Field is slated for 7 p.m.
