Watch Interview With Winston Boldt
WEST POINT, N.Y. - After posting his first career shutout in Army's scoreless draw versus Lafayette this past weekend, Black Knight freshman goalkeeper Winston Boldtwas selected as the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Boldt is the second Army men's soccer player to receive AAA Athlete of the Week laurels this season, joining junior forward Trent Brown, who earned the honors last month.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Boldt made three saves, including a game-saving stop late in the second overtime, to help Army (7-9-1, 2-3-1 PL) earn a tie versus Lafayette on Sunday.
On Wednesday night, Boldt recorded two saves as Army slipped past Adelphi, 2-1, in a non-league match. The rookie keeper denied an Adelphi shot from point-blank range with two seconds remaining in regulation to preserve the victory.
For the week, Boldt forged a 0.45 goals-against average and an .833 save percentage. The first-year goalie, who has started Army's last four matches, boasts a 1.13 GAA and .792 save percentage on the season.
The Black Knights close out their regular-season schedule on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to take on Lehigh in a critical Patriot League match. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Army is still in contention to secure its first berth into the conference tournament since 1996. The Black Knights need to defeat the Mountain Hawks and receive some help in order to earn a postseason bid.
