WEST POINT, N.Y. -
Army freshman forward Nick Williams was recognized as the Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a pair of game-winning goals last week. The honor marks Williams' second Patriot League award after being named the league's Rookie of the Week back on Sept. 3.
Williams scored the game winner in the 37th minute of Army's 2-0 win over a Central Connecticut State team ranked fourth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) North Atlantic Region poll last Tuesday. Williams followed up his early week performance by scoring the deciding goal during the 58th minute in a 1-0 Patriot League victory over Lehigh on Saturday. The win versus the Mountain Hawks clinched the Black Knights' first Patriot League Championship spot since 1996, when Army won the league title.
With three regular season contests remaining, Williams has a team-best nine points, including tying for the team lead with four markers. Williams also stands tied in third place in the Patriot League with three game-winning goals while appearing in all 14 games with 11 starts.
Army (12-1-1, 6-0-0 PL) is currently ranked sixth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region and stands tied atop the Patriot League with service-academy rival Navy. The Black Knights are on the road to face Holy Cross (Oct. 30) and Lafayette (Nov. 2) before meeting the Midshipmen in the season finale at PPL Park in Chester, Pa., on Friday, Nov. 8.
