CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -The Army men’s soccer team was picked to finish second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, the league office announced Thursday. Army also had the most players named to the preseason all-league squad with four selections. Preseason voting was compiled by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors, who were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

Army received 143 points in the voting process, including a pair of first-place votes. Defending Patriot League champion Navy was picked first with 161 points, while Bucknell (118 points), American (109) and Holy Cross (100) rounded out the top five.

Senior Winston Boldt was the lone goalkeeper named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team after becoming the first Army player to earn All-America and Academic All-America honors in the same season in 2013. Boldt, who was recently named to Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List, posted a program record with 12 shutouts last year, which ranked tied for second in the nation. Additionally, Boldt finished third nationally in save percentage (.888) and fifth in goals against average (.521). Along with his All-America accolades, Boldt was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2013.

Senior Sean Mogan, who will serve as a co-captain alongside Boldt, earned selection to the preseason all-league team after leading the Black Knights in scoring a season ago. Mogan notched 10 points (three goals, four assists) last year, while also scoring a game-winning goal. Mogan earned his first all-league recognition in 2013, landing on the All-Patriot League third team.

Junior Justin Kim joins Mogan as one of four midfielders named Preseason All-Patriot League. Kim drew recognition on the All-Patriot League second team last year, while tallying one assist in 16 appearances. Kim played an important role as a defensive midfielder for a team that reached the 12-win mark for just the fifth time in program history a season ago.

Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year Tanner Vosvick was the only sophomore recognized on the preseason all-league team. As a freshman, Vosvick led all Army defenders with four points (two goals, two assists) and was the team’s only field player to start in all 18 contests.

Army opens the 2014 season on Friday, Aug. 29, when the Black Knights welcome Fairfield to Clinton Field at 7 p.m.
