CHESTER, Pa. -
Army and Navy will commemorate their historic 80th meeting in men's soccer when the extraordinary rivalry brings the two service academies back to PPL Park on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013. PPL Park is the home of Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.
"We are excited to welcome back such a historic event like the Army-Navy Cup back to PPL Park," said Nick Sakiewicz, CEO & Operating Partner of Philadelphia Union. "Army-Navy is such a great tradition and the second annual event is continuing the legacy in grand style. We will once again provide fans with a world-class, diverse experience in our stadium, and hosting this prestigious rivalry is an excellent opportunity to establish PPL Park as a home for top collegiate events."
The second annual Army-Navy Cup looks to continue the success of the inaugural meeting last year that drew an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 4,000 fans. The battle at PPL Park ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving both schools hungry for victory this year.
"The Army-Navy Cup at PPL Park was a phenomenal soccer experience for our program last season, and we look forward to returning to Philadelphia this November," said Army head coach Russell Payne. "We are very excited to once again have the opportunity to showcase the most unique rivalry in college athletics at one of the premier soccer stadiums in Major League Soccer."
"The Navy men's soccer team is certainly excited to be playing again this fall at PPL Park," said Navy head coach Dave Brandt. "It's a fantastic venue for soccer and a high quality, professional environment that creates a great atmosphere for collegiate soccer and is a one of a kind experience for fans and players alike."
Navy owns a 38-27-14 series advantage against Army. The contest marks the final game of the regular season for both clubs, and Patriot League Tournament implications could be at stake.
