CHESTER, Pa. - Junior back Joseph Greenspan scored in the 107th minute during double overtime to give Navy a 1-0 Patriot League win over the Army men's soccer team in the second installment of the Army-Navy Cup on Friday evening at PPL Park. The teams played in front an Army-Navy men's soccer record 7,416 fans.
The Black Knights, who are ranked eighth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll, finish the regular season 12-3-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the conference, while the Midshipmen, who are receiving a vote in the NSCAA national poll, wrap up their regular season 13-3-2 and 9-0-0. Navy is locked in as the No. 1 seed in next week's Patriot League Championship, while Army holds the No. 2 slot. Both teams earn a quarterfinal bye and will compete in the league semifinals on Friday, Nov. 15.

For the Midshipmen, Greenspan added the game winner, while senior midfielder Dave Arnold contributed an assist. Senior goalie Gavin Snyder made three stops in net.
Sophomore forward Cody Guerry and freshman forward Nick Williamseach registered a shot on goal in the first half, but Snyder denied both chances as the teams entered halftime tied, 0-0.
Both teams battled back and forth with neither side notching a dangerous opportunity until the 70th minute, when Navy back Nick Dubee pulled the ball across his body to his right foot before sending a shot from about 18 yards over the crossbar. Black Knight junior back Sean Moganfired a line drive right at Snyder in the 75th minute before Boldt dove on a dangerous rebound following a Midshipman chance in the 76th minute.
In the first overtime, Navy senior midfielder Guy Skord made took a shot from 20 yards out, but Boldt was in position to make the save in the 99th minute as the most threatening chance of the period.
The Black Knights will travel to Navy on Friday, Nov. 15 for the Patriot League semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Army will learn its opponent following the league quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Match Notes: Navy leads Army 39-27-14 in the all-time series ... the Black Knights will compete in the Patriot League Championship next week for the first time since 1996.
