WEST POINT, N.Y. - The regionally ranked Army men's soccer team used a second-half goal from junior back Sean Mogan to grab a 1-0 Patriot League victory over Colgate on Wednesday evening at Clinton Field.

After the win, the Black Knights, who are ranked seventh in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region poll, improve to 8-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in league play, while the Raiders drop to 2-8-1 and 1-1-1.

"Over the last few years, Colgate has been a team that's been difficult to play against," said Army head men's soccer coach Russell Payne. "And we worked hard to get the early goal in the second half."

Army junior goalkeeper Winston Boldt made five saves to notch his eighth shutout of the season. Boldt's eight clean sheets are the most by a Black Knight goalie since 1992, when Lucas Rice totaled a program-best nine shutouts.

Freshman goalkeeper Ricky Brown stopped six shots in net for Colgate.

After the Raiders fired the contest's first shot 14 seconds into the first half, the Black Knights took the next four, including two on net, in the ensuing 13:06. Colgate came back with chances of their own, as they trailed Army 7-5 in shots after the opening half.

Mogan put the hosts on top, 1-0, in the 47th minute after burying a free kick into the top left corner on a strike from just outside right edge of the box. The Raiders fired off four shots during a 3:59 span near the midway point of the second half before recording six more attempts during the final 15:58. Army's defense was tested twice in the final minute, as Colgate sent a header wide before Boldt turned away an attempt from freshman midfield Colin O'Neill with just 12 seconds remaining in the match.

The Black Knights return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they battle Patriot League newcomer Loyola in a 7 p.m. road contest.
