WORCESTER, Mass. - Army dominated the match statistically, but Holy Cross scored the game's lone goal midway through the first half as the Crusaders knocked off the Black Knights, 1-0, in the Patriot League opener for both schools Saturday evening at Smith Stadium.

Eddie Viscount scored his first goal of the season in the 34th minute and Holy Cross (2-5-0, 1-0-0 PL) held off Army (2-6-0, 0-1-0 PL) to secure its second win of the season. Kevin O'Connell and Monty Sanders picked up assists on Viscount's marker, which was scored from eight yards off following a cross from O'Connell.

Army outshot the Holy Cross 14-8, and the Black Knights enjoyed a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Crusaders held a 5-4 margin in shots on goal, though, and Viscount's first-half tally proved to be the game winner.

"We have come agonizingly close to winning our last two games," said Army head coach Russell Payne. "The bottom line is that we need to finish our chances, and we'll continue to work on that. Our guys are competing well and playing positively, but we haven't been able to take advantage of our opportunities to score."

Senior midfielder Michael Kim led Army's offense with a game-high five shots. Senior forward Trent Brown added four shots for the Black Knights, who have dropped five straight matches after starting the season 2-1-0.

Josh Cintas recorded a game-high four shots on goal to pace Holy Cross. The Crusaders have won two of their last three matches after beginning the season with four consecutive losses.

Kevin Wright (1-0-0) stopped all four shots he faced to secure his first win of the year. Army sophomore goalkeeper Winston Boldt made four saves, but suffered the loss in the Black Knights' cage.

Army will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 30, when the Black Knights travel to PPL Park in Chester, Pa., to battle Navy in the annual "Star" match. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

Match Notes: Army is now 16-13-1 all-time versus Holy Cross.
