Mission: March To Michie
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Lacrosse fans around the region have a new challenge - March to Michie. The initiative is an effort to set the Michie Stadium attendance standard for lacrosse when Army hosts perennial powerhouse Johns Hopkins this Friday, May 3. Along with the Black Knights facing off in their regular-season finale at 7:30 p.m., there will be a bevy of fan activities and events surrounding the highly anticipated contest.
Army set its current attendance record of 10,192 for last season's Army-Navy game on April 14. The Black Knights currently sit 11th in the nation, averaging 1,447 spectators over five home games. Army beat rival Navy, 14-7, in front of a season-high 12,103 onlookers earlier this season at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Chief among a plethora of pregame options will be Black Knights Alley. The alley will be open along Mills Road between Gates 1 and 3 of Michie Stadium from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Included in the fan fest will be camouflage face painting, Humvees, Coca-Cola bounce houses, photo stations, a social media hub, the cadet band, kettle corn vendors, sponsor tents, a lacrosse interactive station and food/beer tent.
Also on hand to enhance the fan experience will be the West Point Spirit Band and Army mascots.
Youth teams interested in booking a Game Day Experience for the Johns Hopkins game should do so fast as space is limited. The experience includes a pregame chalk talk with members of the Army lacrosse program and postgame autographs with the players. Interested groups should call 845-446-2375 for more information.
A special reunion event to commemorate the anniversaries of the 1983 and 1993 lacrosse teams will be held in the Superintendent's Loge. Members from both teams will also be honored on the field during the game. Both teams made appearances in the NCAA Tournament, while members of the Class of 1993 won three-straight Patriot League championships.
May 3 will also mark Department Day for West Point employees. Discounted tickets are being offered and the department with the most people to purchase tickets will be rewarded with an on-field recognition.
Finally, Army will honor 10 members of the Class of 2013 in a special Senior Day ceremony prior to face-off. Andrew Boyd, Brendan Buckley, Matt Ghidotti, Garrett Thul, Evan Danahy, Marc Pesa, Matt Mezer, Pat Brennan, Alex Van Krevel and Kip Haddock will all be playing their final game at Michie Stadium.
Fans are highly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by logging on to www.goARMYsports.com, calling 1-877-TIX-ARMY or by visiting the Army Ticket Office at Gate 3 of Michie Stadium.
